Running events in Madrid: Spartan, RM Charity Run, Vintage
Plan your May 2026 runs in Madrid: Spartan challenges, Real Madrid Charity Run ending in a stadium, or a retro-themed 10K Vintage Run.
Visiting Madrid in May and itching to run? Whether you're after a fun run, meeting new people or seeing the city on foot without wasting half the morning on logistics, you're in luck. May 2026 offers three very different options —mud and epic challenges, a charity run ending in a stadium, and a fast 10K with a retro twist— so you can pick the one that matches your energy (and your legs).
Quick guide: key dates
Which one is for you? Choose based on 'vibes'
Looking for an epic challenge? Spartan. This isn't just 'going for a run', it's 'earning it'. Technical terrain, obstacles, water, and that atmosphere where strangers cheer you on.
Looking for emotion + purpose? Real Madrid Foundation Charity Run. A 5K or 10K with a unique twist: finishing inside the Santiago Bernabéu stadium (yes, the kind of moment that gives you goosebumps). Looking for a smooth 10K? Vintage Run. Waves starting at 9:00, a paved urban route, a 90-minute time limit… and a retro vibe that'll make you smile even at kilometre 8.
Madrid Spartan Weekend 2026 (9–10 May)
What it is: a Trifecta Weekend (you can do Sprint + Super + Beast all in one weekend if you're feeling unstoppable) and, if you're bringing kids, there's also a Kids Race.
Where it is: San Agustín del Guadalix, 'about 40 minutes from the city' according to the organisers.
IX Real Madrid Foundation Charity Run (17 May)
The organisers detail packs and price increases from 17 April (until sold out):
Madrid Vintage Run by TotalEnergies (31 May)
Shake-out runs in Madrid: 3 routes to train like a local
This is the classic for an easy run or a progressive session without endless traffic lights. There are very flat stretches and, if you want to extend it, you can link up with Casa de Campo.
If you're coming from the Spartan or training for something longer, this is where Madrid turns into nature. Perfect for loosening up and swapping tarmac for trails.
El Retiro is the go-to 'quick run and back' option. If you're short on time, it's the safe bet.
Where to eat and recover
Misión is the kind of place where you walk in and feel the city waking up: speciality coffee, people with laptops, quiet conversation and a bar that runs like clockwork. The light is usually kind (morning light is gold), and it's easy to linger without feeling in the way: come to recover, message your family, check your splits… and get back to Madrid.
Menu musts (runner-friendly):
– Yoghurt with granola and fresh fruit – €6 if you want something light but complete.
– If you're a 'serious coffee' person: house filter from €2.80 (and if you fall in love, refills are +€1).
Insider tip: Misión is cashless (card only), so don't count on paying in cash when you're half-zombie post-10K. And if you want to grab a table in peace, early hours are your time.
Café Comercial is one of those places that makes you feel Madrid has a memory: high ceilings, pleasant noise (not nightclub, yes city) and a vibe that mixes locals with visitors who come 'to experience it'. Perfect for celebrating a race without resorting to 'grabbed something standing up'.
Recovery (and celebration) musts:
– Tortilla slice – €4.50: simple, effective, quintessentially Spanish.
– If you're more of a dessert-reward person: cheesecake with red berries – €8.00.
Insider tip: if you're in the mood for a 'non-alcoholic toast', their menu includes a San Francisco – €10 (juice + fruit). It's the kind of touch that works perfectly when you've run and still want to feel sharp.
The beauty of these races isn't just the bib: they give you the perfect excuse to experience the city with rhythm, neighbourhoods and people. And that's where Adventure comes in strong: community (so you don't have to run alone if you don't want to), culture (Madrid is a walk/metro ride away) and practical comfort (kitchen, rest, routine).
If your trip to Madrid coincides with the races, make it perfect: stay somewhere where peace and quiet come first.
